UK Census Records

Census schedules are one of the most useful resources available to family historians. The first genealogically useful census (for the UK & Ireland) was taken in 1841, when names were first recorded.

Some of the information requested was:

  • Name of each person
  • Relationship of person to the head of the household
  • Marital status, age, sex
  • Person’s profession or occupation
  • Person’s place of birth
  • Whether blind, deaf, or idiot
  • Name of street, place, road, etc.
  • House number or name
