Census schedules are one of the most useful resources available to family historians. The first genealogically useful census (for the UK & Ireland) was taken in 1841, when names were first recorded.
The 1871 England Census was taken on the night of 2 April 1871. Some of the information requested was:
- Name of each person
- Relationship of person to the head of the household
- Marital status, age, sex
- Person's profession or occupation
- Person's place of birth
- Whether blind, deaf, or idiot
- Name of street, place, road, etc.
- House number or name
